![]() The North East of Brazil The Nordeste is the north-east region of Brazil compiling a total area of about 1,6 million square kilometers equal to the surface of Germany, UK, France and Spain together with 47 million inhabitants. The fact that specific the rural areas are poor is somewhat ironic since the Nordeste, during Brazil's colonial era when sugar production was higher, was the most prosperous region in all of South America. Generally, migrant Nordestinos in hope of a better life come without much money to the main cities, and are rejected by most employers due to their low or nonexistent education. Quickly they end up in favelas (slums). The Nordeste offers rich and fertile soil as well as dry and poor land. Many good agricultural areas often owned by few families, are now unused. With low cost of land and widely available labor this region offers splendid opportunities. SuperVerde carefully selects the zones it will work in. The test areas are situated in the State of Ceará. The intention is to invest in other states such as Bahia, Piauí and Pernambuco. We will work closely together with local governments, institutes and NGO’s to ensure the best possible synergy between economic and social investment. Ceará The Nordeste offers a reasonable infrastructure. At this moment the best infrastructure for Biodiesel which includes a modern port in Pecém can be found in the state of Ceará. This is one of the reasons that SuperVerde commences its operations in this state. Production units - test areas 2007 SuperVerde bought and leased land in the region Baixa Acaraú in 2007 to obtain a significant test area to experiment with irrigation, dry land production, cross cropping and high density production. The main oily crops used are Pinhão Manso (Jatropha) and Mamona (Caster plant). Addinionally test are done in Guaramiranga at 850 meters above sealevel. In the center of the state of Cearã tests are done in corporation with the government of Ceará (ematerce) focused on ecological renewables production by micro farmers. |
